Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, excess mortality in Russia has exceeded one million people. Such data publishes magazine “Cold”.

Earlier, during a speech at a meeting of the State Duma, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the death rate in the first half of December this year decreased by 14.7%. At the same time, she did not specify in comparison with what period the indicator decreased. “Kholod” emphasizes that earlier Golikova provided similar data regarding previous months.

According to Golikova, in November, the death rate in Russia increased by 3.4% compared to October, that is, 256 thousand people died in a month. According to Kholod’s estimates, about 128 thousand deaths accounted for the first half, since mortality from COVID-19, according to official data, remained stable, therefore, 109 thousand people died in the first half of December. The expected death rate for the entire December, as the newspaper writes, was 148 thousand, which means that in the first half of the month 35 thousand more people died than expected.

Taking into account the words of Golikova, “Kholod” notes that by the end of November the excess death rate was more than 987 thousand people. If we add to this indicator 35 thousand deaths from COVID-19, it turns out that by mid-December the figure exceeded 1 million people, and since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic – in almost two years – about 1.02 million more people have died in Russia. than expected.

According to the headquarters for the fight against coronavirus in Russia, a total of 294 thousand people died from COVID-19. At the same time, according to Rosstat, almost 538 thousand people with coronavirus have died in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
