The court refused to transfer the father of the former FBK director Ivan Zhdanov, Yuri Zhdanov, under house arrest, on the grounds that he “is retired, and therefore has the opportunity to freely move around the country.” About it reported Zhdanov’s lawyer Vladimir Voronin.
Earlier, Yuri Zhdanov was left in a pre-trial detention center, extending his measure of restraint for another four months. Before that, Zhdanov was transported from the Arkhangelsk pre-trial detention center No. 1 to the regional prison hospital.
Yuri Zhdanov, 66, was arrested on March 29 on charges of abuse of office. A criminal case was opened due to the fact that he, being a member of the housing commission, recommended to the head of the Seekers settlement to allocate an apartment to a local resident under a social tenancy agreement. Later the contract was terminated, the administration returned the apartment through the court. Ivan Zhdanov noted that a year ago an inspection in this case did not reveal any violations, and the head of the village, by whose order an apartment was allocated, did not become a defendant in the criminal case.
In May, Yuri Zhdanov was re-qualified the article on abuse of office (part 1 of article 286 of the Criminal Code) to more serious articles on official forgery (article 292 of the Criminal Code) and fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code).
Initially, he was placed in SIZO-5 of the Rostov Region, but then he was transferred to SIZO-1 of the Arkhangelsk Region. There his health condition deteriorated.
In June, the Moscow City Court recognized the Anti-Corruption Foundation, the Foundation for the Protection of Citizens’ Rights and the headquarters of Alexei Navalny as extremist organizations. Former FBK director Ivan Zhdanov was put on the international wanted list.
