After 11 games at the World Chess Championship, Magnus Carlsen defended his title ahead of schedule after defeating Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi. Carlsen won the last four games against the Russian, the first five ended in a draw.
After 11 games, the score became 7.5: 3.5 in favor of Carlsen, who played with black pieces – even if he won the remaining three games, Nepomniachtchi would not have been able to equalize. In the final game, Nepomniachtchi resigned on move 50.
Carlsen has been the world champion since 2013. In 2014, 2016 and 2018, he successfully defended his title three times.
