“Vesti” reported about Roskomnadzor’s lightning victory over Tor. Tor didn’t notice it

In reality, however, the blocking of the site had little to no effect on Tor. Tor administration made statement recommending the use of mirror site and technology “bridges”, which allows you to bypass the blocking. Even if the site’s mirror is also blocked, Tor has a robot that sends everyone who wants to link to “bridges” by e-mail. Downloading the browser is not difficult using any of the many VPNs. Roskomsvoboda lawyer Sarkis Darbinyan in a commentary for the BBC notedthat the Tor developers have long been ready for such steps and have developed “special tools for countries with repressive regimes”:

“This was done so that countries with a high level of Internet censorship, such as China and Iran, could gain access to blocked sites.

So the termination of Tor operation in Russia is the purest fantasy of the Vesti editorial staff. Blocking Tor is hardly realistic, since it is a decentralized network with an unlimited number of entry and exit points.

In 2018, Roskomnadzor tried to block the Telegram messenger in Russia, but it continued to work with the help of a specially designed proxy system and experienced only minor difficulties. Even some government agencies and state media have started and maintained their accounts and channels in the blocked messenger. After two years of unsuccessful struggle, during which Roskomnadzor managed to block access even to its own website for some time, it gave up and stopped blocking, and soon started its own Telegram channel.
