The co-owner of the Rive Gauche chain and the Internet retailer Yulmart, August Meyer, is charged with the theft of more than 2.4 billion rubles. About it informs the united press service of the city courts of St. Petersburg. Court sent him in jail for two months.

“Meyer is charged with two episodes of fraud in the amount of 1,428,677,453 rubles and 1,000,000,000 rubles,” the message says.

The defendant himself does not admit his guilt. His defense stated that the materials presented are “a set of spells and mantras that do not confirm anything at all.” “The investigation has been underway for five years. Everything has already been confiscated, everything has been interrogated. This is a business conflict, ”said Meyer’s lawyer.

The court is considering the request of the investigation to arrest the businessman.

The lawyer asks to elect a ban on certain actions, bail up to 5,000,000 rubles, house arrest.

Meyer’s wife is also a defendant in a criminal case, in respect of her the investigation plans to apply for a measure of house arrest. The investigator, substantiating the petition, indicated, among other things, that Meyer was taking active measures to alienate the property.

Meyer, along with his wife Inna, was detained in St. Petersburg on December 8. He is suspected of stealing 2.3 billion rubles from Sberbank. The case has been under investigation since 2017.
