Alexander Lopatin, a leading adviser to the department of the Russian Ministry of Defense responsible for securing the state defense order, was detained by military investigators in Moscow on suspicion of receiving a large bribe. About it informs TASS citing a law enforcement source.
“With him, operational investigative actions are being carried out, after which the investigators will go to court with a petition to choose a preventive measure for him,” the agency quoted the interlocutor as saying.
The source said that Lopatin is charged with committing a crime under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (taking a bribe by an official on an especially large scale). The punishment under this article provides for up to 15 years in prison with a fine of up to 70 times the amount of the bribe.
The press service of the Basmanny Court of Moscow, in a conversation with TASS, clarified that the investigation’s petition to choose an arrest has already been submitted to Lopatin. The court will start considering it shortly.
