In Minsk, an entrepreneur and an engineer who threw a stone at the window of an employee of the prosecutor’s office are accused of terrorism

Investigative Committee of Belarus informs about the arrest of an engineer and an entrepreneur who are accused of committing a terrorist act. According to the investigation, the defendants threw a stone at the window of the apartment where the prosecutor’s office worker lives.

The criminal case was initiated under Part 1 of Art. 359 (act of terrorism against a statesman), part 2 of Art. 290-4 (participation in an organization created to carry out terrorist activities) of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The suspects are in custody. Only under Article 359 they face punishment in the form of 15 years in prison.

According to the Investigative Committee, detainees aged 43 and 36 since the fall of 2020 are active participants in a private chat created within the framework of the Busly Lyatsyats (Storks Are Flying) initiative of the Supratsin (Resistance) informal organization, which the authorities recognized as terrorist.

In April 2021, the suspects “threw a stone at the window of an apartment where an employee of the Minsk prosecutor’s office lives with a small child, after which they fled the scene.” As a result of the criminal actions, the life and health of the prosecutor’s office employee and his family members were endangered, the Investigative Committee emphasized.

Not long before this “terrorist attack”, the address, contact details, position and place of work of the prosecutor’s office employee were posted on one of the Telegram channels included by the Belarusian authorities in the list of “extremist” ones.

The UK added that the Resistance organization was created in May 2021 to “unite radicalized citizens and persuade them to participate in riots, commit acts of terrorism, violently change the constitutional system of the republic, discredit state authorities, intimidate the population and destabilize public order “.
