The general director of the Omicron network of ophthalmological clinics, Alexander Padar, filed a lawsuit with the Moscow Arbitration Court against the Russian office of the World Health Organization. He requires ban the name of the new coronavirus strain because it matches the name of its clinics.
“It should be noted that in order to make the Omicron brand recognizable, the plaintiff spent colossal amounts of money on advertising. So earlier, when entering the word “omicron” in the search line, information about the medical ophthalmological clinic of the plaintiff was among the first for a long period of time, but now when you enter this word, information appears that carries alarm, fear, horror and has nothing to do with medical activity the plaintiff, therefore, will inevitably face colossal financial losses, ”the statement of claim says.
Padar wants to ban WHO from using the word “omicron” to refer to a strain of coronavirus or any other infection, and also insists that the term be removed from any WHO documents related to the new COVID-19 strain.
Recall that the previously little-known Hong Kong metal band Omicron, on the contrary, faced with increased interest in their address, after the news about the eponymous variant of the coronavirus began to appear in the media.
