SpaceX is facing bankruptcy if it does not accelerate the production of the Raptor engines, which are needed for its reusable Starship, the head of the company Elon Musk said in a letter to employees. His words quotes CNBC.
“We will face a real risk of bankruptcy if next year we cannot achieve regularity of Starship launches at least once every two weeks,” Musk wrote. Since his departure from the company’s VP of propulsion, Will Heltsley, he says, he “dug into the problems of the program” and found that the situation is much more serious than he previously thought.
Musk also canceled a vacation he wanted to take for Thanksgiving and said he would personally work on the production line until Friday night, December 3, or even the end of next weekend. “We need all hands to recover from what, frankly, was a disaster,” he stressed.
The Raptor is a closed-cycle engine powered by liquid methane and oxygen. SpaceX plans to use it on the Starship manned spacecraft and the Super Heavy launch vehicle to launch spacecraft into orbit. Each rocket must be equipped with 39 engines.
