Bloomberg Agency included Alexei Navalny in the annual list of “50 people of the year”.
The publication described Navalny as “a fierce critic of the Kremlin” who “was imprisoned more than 10 months ago after returning from abroad, where he was recovering from poisoning.”
The list also included businessmen, scientists, representatives of the financial sector, as well as the entertainment and technology industries. The achievements of the people on the list deserve recognition, Bloomberg adds.
The agency also set aside a separate list for people who are “too obvious to include on Bloomberg.” This list, in particular, includes US President Joe Biden, SpaceX founder and owner Elon Musk, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On October 20 this year, the European Parliament awarded Alexei Navalny with the Sakharov Prize. This was reported by the European People’s Party, which nominated him.
“Mr. Putin, release Alexei Navalny. Europe is calling for the release of him and other political prisoners, ”the European People’s Party said in a statement.
The presentation of the award was also commented on by the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. “Navalny is tirelessly fighting the corruption of Vladimir Putin’s regime. It cost him his freedom and almost his life. Today’s prize is a testament to his immense courage and we reiterate our call for his immediate release. ”
Rane magazine Time included Navalny in the list of the 100 most influential people of 2021.
Now Alexei Navalny is serving a sentence in a colony in the Vladimir region in the Yves Rocher case. The court sentenced him to 3.5 years in prison. Taking into account the time spent under house arrest, he must serve in a colony for two years and eight months.
Also, on September 30, it became known that new criminal cases were initiated against Alexei Navalny and his associates under articles on the creation and leadership of an extremist community, as well as participation in it. Investigative Committee claims that Navalny did this in order to “change the foundations of the constitutional order” and undermine “public security and state integrity of the Russian Federation.”
According to the investigation, no later than 2014, Navalny, as the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, created an “extremist community and led it.” At the same time, “Volkov and Zhdanov joined Navalny’s criminal activities.” Participation in the “extremist community” is imputed to Lyubov Sobol, Georgy Alburov, Ruslan Shaveddinov, Pavel Zelensky and “other persons”.
