Israel closes borders to foreigners for two weeks due to new strain of coronavirus

[ad_1]

The Israeli government has decided to temporarily close the entry to the country for all foreigners in order to contain the spread of the new COVID-19 strain omicron. About it reported Cabinet of Ministers of the country.

The decision to close the country for foreigners will last 14 days. In addition, citizens are prohibited from visiting 50 African countries, which are placed in the “red zone” by the Israeli authorities. Residents of the country arriving from the African continent are required to undergo quarantine.

In addition, the Israeli special services will again be allowed to track the data transmitted by the mobile phones of citizens in order to determine who has come into contact with people infected with the coronavirus.

To date, only one case of omicron infection has been identified in Israel. Another seven people with suspicion of this strain are being tested. Israel became the first country in the world to close borders due to a new strain of coronavirus.

Strain B.1.1.529, dubbed omicron, was first discovered in South Africa in November. Since then, cases of infection with this variant of the virus have been identified in the UK, Belgium, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Germany and, presumably, in the Czech Republic. WHO called omicron a “worrying” option.
