On November 25, a fire broke out at the Listvyazhnaya coal mine in the Kemerovo Region, which was preceded by an Ietana explosion that thundered at a depth of 250 meters. At the time of the incident, there were 285 workers in the mine, of whom 236 were evacuated.
Previously RIA Novosti reportedthat, according to preliminary data, 52 people died, including six rescuers. The agency’s interlocutor stated that none of those who remained in the mine survived.
The reason for the emergency, according to Deputy Prosecutor General Dmitry Demeshin, was a methane explosion caused by a spark and the subsequent dynamic blow.
As part of the investigation, the 47-year-old director of the mine, his 59-year-old first deputy and 36-year-old site manager were detained, according to the UK website.
“It has been established that the detainees violated the industrial safety requirements of hazardous production facilities. As a result, a gas-dynamic phenomenon occurred. Smoke began to fill the ventilation drift of section No. 4, as a result of which the workers in the mine suffocated, ”the message says.
A criminal case was opened under the article “Violation of industrial safety requirements for hazardous production facilities, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence.” It can face up to seven years in prison.
The governor of the Kemerovo region, Sergei Tsivilev, announced a three-day mourning for the victims in the region.
