The US authorities have decided to expand sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, adding a company and a vessel to it. About it informs Bloomberg with reference to the State Department.
We are talking about the company Transadria Ltd, which is based in Cyprus, and the ship Marlin belonging to it.
In addition, the State Department has accused another vessel, the Blue Ship, of participating in the work on Nord Stream 2. At the same time, no sanctions are imposed against it, since it belongs to a structure related to the German authorities.
As the agency notes, this step is unlikely to change the opinion of those congressmen who believe that the US administration is not fighting hard enough against the implementation of the project. Earlier, six senators advocated an amendment to the US defense budget for fiscal 2022, providing for sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG. The proposed amendment introduces mandatory sanctions against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 project.
Last week Germany temporarily suspended certification process for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The authorities’ claims are based on the fact that Nord Stream 2 AG decided not to reorganize the existing company, but to create a subsidiary only for the German part of the line.
