The Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg sent for compulsory treatment the enemy of the construction of the temple, Ivan Nogovitsyn, who was accused of participating in the riots and calling for them (part 2, part 3 of article 212 of the Criminal Code). The court found Nogovitsyn insane and released him from criminal liability. The case was considered behind closed doors.
Nogovitsyn became the only defendant in the case of riots due to protests against the construction of a temple in the city center, which took place in May 2019. A criminal case was opened against him in February 2020, but the public became aware of this only a year later.
According to the investigation, during the protests, Nogovitsyn carried off six concrete blocks and knocked down five fence panels, which “created conditions to facilitate further destruction of the fence by other participants.” Nagovitsyn was also accused of “loudly voicing calls for riots, participation in them, accompanied by the destruction of other people’s property.”
