Scientists of the Kabardino-Balkarian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a project of a caterpillar “turtle” robot for the Russian Guard, which will be able to “suppress street riots.” He will be armed with a stun gun, net throwers and quick-hardening foam. All this follows from the document posted on website Rospatent, informs RIA Novosti.
The car has a streamlined body, reminiscent of a tortoise shell. As conceived by the developers, thanks to this form, demonstrators and bystanders will not be injured due to protrusions or corners of the mechanism. In addition, such a body does not allow grabbing the protruding parts of the robot and turning it over, the authors of the project say.
The robot will be about the waist of an adult in height. It is planned to be released in two modifications. The first version is a high-speed (50-60 kilometers per hour) robotic operative that will “cut through” crowds of people and detain protesters with the help of nets, stun guns, foam sprayers and irritants.
The second option is robotic shield-bearers, designed to set up barriers that divide the crowd into parts, as well as blocking “violators” from direct physical contact with law enforcement officers.
