The Basmanny Court of Moscow has appointed Novaya Gazeta and its editor-in-chief, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dmitry Muratov, six fines for mentioning “foreign agents” without marking. Three protocols were drawn up against Dmitry Muratov under Part 2.1 of Art. 13.15 of the Administrative Code (dissemination of information about “foreign agents”, extremist or terrorist organizations without marking), three more protocols were drawn up for “Novaya Gazeta”. As specified in the press service of the court, Muratov was fined 12 thousand rubles, and the publication – 120 thousand rubles.
The protocols were drawn up due to publications about FBK and the “Alliance of Doctors”. The legal service of Novaya Gazeta told ChTD that the editorial board had not been notified of the meetings.
October 8 this year to Dmitry Muratov and the American-Filipino journalist Maria Ress was awarded Nobel Peace Prize “for efforts to preserve freedom of expression, which is a prerequisite for democracy and peace.”
Awarding the award to Muratov caused active discussion – many felt that the award should have been received by Navalny. Muratov himself also said that in the place of the Nobel Committee he would give it to the founder of the FBK.
