The emails were sent from the @ ic.fbi.gov account. “Urgent: intruder in the system,” the subject line said. The letters were signed by the US Department of Homeland Security.
According to the Spamhaus Project, no malware was attached to the emails. Experts suggest that the hackers’ goal was to flood the FBI phone lines with calls.
