Security Service of Ukraine published the testimony of Denis Kulikovsky, nicknamed “Palych”, who was previously the commandant of the torture prison “Isolation”, created by the DPR militants. According to Kulikovsky, torture was used against the prisoners, and the FSB of the Russian Federation supervised all the work to extract evidence.
Until December 2014, Kulikovsky was a security inspector, and after that he was appointed head of the Izolyatsia prison. His main task was to “extract” from the prisoners the testimony necessary for the investigation.
During the interrogations, officers of the FSB of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of State Security of the self-proclaimed DPR were always present. The detainees who did not give confessions were tortured. The interrogation was watched by Dr. Stanislav Simonov, nicknamed “Doc”. A medic was needed to pump out a person if he felt bad.
“Palych” spoke about the torture of prisoners in detail. “Tapik, aka a telephone set, was tied either to the toes, or the“ Doc ”who did all this … he tied to the genitals. People were either put in solitary confinement, where there is no toilet, nothing, then they were not taken to the toilet, they were given a bottle. Or on the orders of Vasily Viktorovich Evdokimov, aka “Lenin”, I received an order to put a man for a day, so that he stood, not to feed, not to drink, so that he only gave evidence, “explained Kulikovsky.
In July 2015, Kulikovsky, according to him, had a falling out with one of the Izolyatsia guards while drinking alcohol. “And he died through my fault,” added the prison commandant. After that, Kulikovsky was removed from his managerial position, but he continued to work at Izolyatsia until the beginning of 2018.
“He performed the same functions as before, that is: operational activities, knocking out testimonies … Officers of the FSB, counterintelligence, the central office of Moscow came and took me,” Kulikovsky said about how he received instructions from Russian security officials.
Former prisoners of Izolyatsia partly confirm the testimony of Palych, writes “Play”.
According to Kulikovsky’s testimony, the FSB officers worked in contact with Evdokimov, who was the head of the Special Operations Center of the DPR Ministry of State Security.
In 2017, the then Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios said that the investigation suspected Evdokimov of two murders: the SBU Colonel Alexandra Kharaberyusha in Mariupol and colonel of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Maxim Shapoval in Kiev. Both officers were blown up in cars.
The commandant of Izolyatsia, Kulikovsky, gave evidence confirming the version of the investigation. In particular, he said that preparations for the murder of Kharaberyush took place on the territory of Izolyatsia, where “there was a broken Land Cruiser Prado”. “One employee who is currently working at the Central Security Service of the Ministry of State Security of the DPR was trained to attach, as I understand it, an explosive device to the bottom of the car,” Kulikovsky added.
He also said that after the murder of Kharaberyush, Evdokimov came to Izolyatsia and boasted: “Oh, our work, look.” According to Kulikovsky, the same people from the MGB organized the murder of Shapoval.
Kulikovsky, who was detained in Kiev, incriminate the creation of a terrorist organization, an illegal armed group, human trafficking and cruel treatment of prisoners. Stanislav Aseev, a journalist for the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty, who spent 2.5 years in DNR prisons, described Palych as a “sadist-psychopath” who “did not feel any compassion for the people he tortured and sexually raped.”
