Prices for winter diesel fuel in Russia have broken a historic record. About it informs “Interfax” with reference to the data of the St. Petersburg International Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange.
At the end of Tuesday’s trading, the price of winter diesel reached 63,711 rubles per ton. The previous peak was recorded in October 2018, when the exchange price of fuel reached 59,953 rubles per ton.
Traditionally, in October, Russian vehicles switch to frost-resistant fuel – winter diesel, the agency notes. In the same period, a seasonal increase in prices for this product begins, but in previous years the situation with a shortage of winter diesel fuel was leveled off by a large number of mini-refineries that produce surrogates. But recently, the authorities have taken up the fight against counterfeiting, and this market segment has shrunk a lot.
As the Russian Fuel Union emphasized in a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, the main reason for the increase in wholesale prices for winter diesel is the discrepancy between its production volumes and market demand. Novak held a special strategic session on the situation on the oil product market, where one of the acute problems discussed was the situation with the winter diesel fuel.
