The convoy in pre-trial detention center No. 7 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow, where the rector of “Shaninka” Sergei Zuev was taken, took away his bag, which contained the things he needed. About it reported Alexey Melnikov, secretary of the Moscow POC.
“Sergei Zuev had previously undergone heart surgery. This morning he felt increased pressure, but could not measure it, because the convoy, taking him out of the court, did not allow him to take the bag with things in which the tonometer was, ”Melnikov wrote.
He also noted that Zuev was left without change of linen, hygiene items and warm clothes, but after the appeal of the POC, the SIZO administration promised to accept a donation for Zuev from his wife.
The rector of Shaninka, in a conversation with Melnikov, said that the lawyers submitted to the Moscow City Court a forensic medical examination report on the presence of diseases that hinder his detention, but the court did not take it into account.
As a reminder, on November 9, the Moscow City Court sent Sergei Zuev from house arrest in a pre-trial detention center, despite the fact that over the past month the rector of “Shaninka” suffered several hypertensive crises. The measure of restraint was changed at the request of the prosecutor’s office. The arrest was carried out in the case of the former deputy head of the Ministry of Education Marina Rakova.
Sergei Zuev was detained on October 12 embezzlement case 21 million rubles from the Fund for New Forms of Education Development. The rector was placed under house arrest, although the prosecutor’s office demanded that he be taken into custody.
Hundreds of Russian scientists, including academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, signed open letter to Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov in defense of the accused. They draw attention to the fact that 67-year-old Zuev, shortly after it became known about the charges against him, was hospitalized with a myocardial infarction and suffered heart surgery… This operation is his third in a row only in the last year. In these circumstances, the detention of Zuev “not only cannot meet the legitimate interests of the investigation, but also becomes a means of pressure that has all the signs of torture,” according to representatives of Russian science.
Together with the rector of the university, the former Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova is being held on the same criminal case. In this position in the government, she, according to the investigation, received state funding for a project for the Fund for New Forms of Education Development, which she herself headed. In addition, Rakova stole funds when concluding government contracts for the implementation of the Teacher of the Future project in 2019, investigators say. Shaninka was the contractor for the Teacher of the Future.
According to the findings of the investigative expertise, reports on ongoing scientific research have signs of falsification. The investigators estimated the amount of embezzlement at 50 million rubles.
