The Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow has appointed human rights activist Lev Ponomarev, who was given the status of a foreign agent, an administrative fine for the lack of appropriate labeling on social networks.
“Ponomarev was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 19.34.1 of the Administrative Code (violation of the procedure for the operation of a foreign media outlet performing the functions of a foreign agent), he was assigned an administrative fine in the amount of 10 thousand rubles “, – reported “Interfax” in the press service of the court.
In October, against human rights activist Lev Ponomarev made up protocol under the article on foreign agents for “non-marking” of materials in social networks. It lists 40 publications that have not been labeled by the HRD. In one of his publications, Ponomarev wrote the word “congratulations” in response to the news that Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Ponomarev himself said that most of the publications are other people’s posts, which he shared on his pages.
On December 28, 2020, the Ministry of Justice of Russia for the first time included individuals in the register of foreign media agents. Lev Ponomarev, Daria Apakhonchich, Denis Kamalyagin, Sergey Markelov and Lyudmila Savitskaya were added to the list. On December 30, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing individuals and public associations without the formation of legal entities that are involved in politics in the Russian Federation and receive foreign funding to be recognized as foreign agents.
On March 7, 2021, the public association “For Human Rights”, which was headed by Ponomarev, was liquidated in connection with Ponomarev’s inclusion in the register of foreign media agents.
The Movement “For Human Rights”, created on November 20, 1997, was recognized by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation in 2014 as an NGO-foreign agent, after which it began to operate without forming a legal entity.
