Houston police are investigating after a stampede at the Astroworld music festival that killed eight people. How informs The BBC, in particular, is checking allegations that someone injected a security guard who was trying to calm the crowd with an unknown substance.
According to the guard, he was trying to grab one of the spectators who was breaking through to the stage when he felt a stab in the neck. The man lost consciousness, doctors injected him with narcan – an antidote to narcotic analgesics. Doctors noticed a mark on his neck that looked like a syringe mark.
As a result of the stampede, young people from 14 to 27 years old were killed. Dozens more suffered.
In total, there were about 50 thousand spectators at the festival. The crush began during a performance by rapper Travis Scott.
In 2017, the musician was arrested for inciting spectators to break through the cordon and climb onto the stage at a concert in Arkansas. As a result, several people were injured, including a security officer and a police officer. The rapper was also sentenced to a year of judicial review for a similar incident at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
