A man was detained in Astrakhan, who, according to preliminary data, is convicted of banditry by Magomed Alkhanov, who escaped from a psychiatric hospital. About it informs “Interfax” with reference to the official representative of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.
“In Astrakhan, the police, together with the FSB officers, detained a person suspected of escaping from custody,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs added that the identity of the detainee is being established.
Alkhanov was put on the wanted list on October 26 after escaping from the Astrakhan mental hospital, where he was being held for a medical examination. The regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service announced a reward of 100 thousand rubles for his capture.
Alkhanov was detained this summer. He was accused in an armed assault case. According to the investigation, on February 29, 2000, as part of a gang under the general leadership of Basayev and Khattab, he attacked servicemen of the 6th company of the 104th regiment of the 76th Pskov division of the Airborne Forces. The attack took place in the mountains near the village of Ulus-Kert, Shatoisky District, Chechnya. As a result, 84 servicemen were killed and four were injured of varying severity.
Earlier, Alkhanov was convicted under the article on banditry.
