A magistrate court in Ivanovo acquitted former police officer Sergei Rimsky, who was accused of assaulting a government official at a rally in support of Alexei Navalny on April 21. The court considered that the intent to publicly insult a government official had not been proven, informs 7×7 edition.
As Rimsky told the newspaper, he is satisfied with the court’s decision, but he is sure that the prosecutor’s office will appeal against him. “In court, I did not deny that I was speaking ‘obscene’ words under my breath. But when we hit something, we can also say the word “*****”. It was the same here. I understood that no one hears the words. But the security forces decided to blow up a criminal case out of this. “
A criminal case for publicly insulting a government official against Rimsky was initiated in May 2021 after being detained at a rally in support of FBK founder Alexei Navalny. A search was carried out at the Roman house, equipment was confiscated. According to the prosecution, he expressed insulting characteristics in relation to the head of the department for organizing security, escorting suspects and accused of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Ivanovo region, Alexander Chinenov. The insults were said in the paddy wagon in front of other detainees.
Formerly The Insider wrote that in the Ivanovo region the Ministry of Internal Affairs opened a case, the defendant of which was the governor of the Ivanovo region Stanislav Voskresensky after Rimsky complained about him.
Voskresensky took part in the All-Russian Forum of Light Industry and did not wear a mask. Rimsky noted that he was prompted to write a statement by “double standards”: the governor ignored antiquated measures at the time when the corresponding police raids with the participation of riot police are taking place in the shopping center, and ordinary citizens are fined every day for not wearing a mask. In addition, Voskresensky called on citizens to be conscientious and talked about the need to wear masks.
Sergei Rimsky resigned from the Ivanovo Ministry of Internal Affairs in February 2021. After his dismissal, he recorded a video in support of Navalny and started a YouTube channel, in which he told details about the work of law enforcement agencies in Russia.
