The new leadership of the Moscow theater of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky has canceled the play “The Wonderful Georgian” with the participation of Olga Buzova, which was to be held at the theater on November 2. About it reported on the theater website.
The theater explained that such a decision was made by the new general director of the theater, Vladimir Kekhman, in connection with “poor ticket sales” for the production during the period of restrictions due to the coronavirus. The site of the theater emphasizes that “the Moscow Art Theater does not remove the performance from the repertoire, but postpones it indefinitely.”
At the same time, Olga Buzova herself published on Instagram, a screenshot showing that all tickets for the performance are sold out. “Dear Moscow Art Theater. I wish you always such sales for all your productions as they were at the performance with my participation, ”the singer wrote.
Vladimir Kekhman was appointed director of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky not last week. Kekhman is known as the artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg, as well as the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater. The latter is associated with a scandal with the production of the opera “Tannhäuser”.
Hacking correspondence “Putin’s confessor” Tikhon Shevkunov showed that the former Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky was behind the ban on the production. So, according to his instructions, at the end of February 2015, an administrative case was opened against the director of the opera Timofey Kulyabin and the director of the theater Boris Mezdrich on the desecration of religious symbols, and the Ministry of Culture began checking the financing of Tannhäuser. On March 29, Mezdrich was fired, and Vladimir Kekhman became the new director of the theater, who soon removed Tannhäuser from the repertoire.
