The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation has suspended the work of the All-Tatar Public Center (VTOTs). Notification of this published on the website of the Ministry of Justice. The activities of the organization were recognized as extremist by the decision of the prosecutor of Tatarstan Ildus Nafikov on October 17.
VTOTs began to have problems after October 15, the organization held a rally in honor of the defenders of Kazan, writes “New Newspaper”. The participants honored those killed during the capture of the Kazan Khanate by the army of Ivan the Terrible in 1552. During the event, an appeal by the VTOTs was read out, in which its authors criticized the concept of “state-forming people” in the Russian Constitution, which refers to Russians.
The authors of the appeal stated that a law should be adopted in Russia “stating that the Tatar people formed a state – the Republic of Tatarstan, that they are not a colonial, but a state-forming people.”
Six days later it became known that the prosecutor’s office opened a case under Art. 20.3.1 of the Administrative Code (incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity) for inciting hatred towards Russians.
The prosecutor’s office of Tatarstan tried to recognize the organization as extremist last year. In March 2021, the activists’ office was searched, documents and equipment were seized.
