The number of deaths from methyl alcohol poisoning in the Sverdlovsk region has increased to three dozen people. About it reported TASS is a source in medical circles.
“The number of deaths has increased to 30, this is preliminary data,” the source said.
As another source in the emergency services of the Sverdlovsk region explained, all the forces of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the regional administration of the Investigative Committee and other special services are aimed at identifying new distribution channels for counterfeit alcohol in the Urals.
Information about the death of residents of the Sverdlovsk region from poisoning with surrogate alcohol containing methyl alcohol, appeared October 16. A criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements of the safety of life or health of consumers, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence). The Chkalovsky District Court of Yekaterinburg arrested until December 15 three defendants in the case – Nadir Mamedov, Armen Avetisyan and Anar Aivazov.
Another suspect, Agamir Aliyev, was released after being detained on an obligation to appear, said his lawyer Dmitry Ushakov. “There were many investigative actions [за прошедшие 72 часа], but [доказательств] not enough, ”he said.
A similar situation with mass poisoning of people is being investigated in the Orenburg region. There, 64 people were poisoned by alcohol, 32 of them died. Counterfeit alcoholic beverages were purchased by the victims in the city of Orsk. Analyzes showed the presence of pure methanol in the biological fluids of victims and deceased. In some cases, its concentration in the body was 3-5 times higher than the lethal dose.
A criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production and sale of goods that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of more than two persons), part 6 of Art. 171.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (production and sale of unmarked alcoholic beverages committed on a large scale by a group of persons by prior conspiracy), part 1 of Art. 171.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal production and circulation of alcohol-containing products, committed on a large scale).
