The film directed by Kira Kovalenko “Unclenching his fists” was nominated by Russia for the Academy Award “Oscar”. About it reported “Interfax” Chairman of the Russian Oscar Committee Pavel Chukhrai.
The plot of the film “Unclenching his fists” takes place in the town of Mizur in North Ossetia, where his father moved his family after the tragic events. He brings up two sons and a daughter strictly, not knowing the boundaries between care and overprotection. The eldest son has already fled from custody to the nearest large city to work. The youngest has not yet fully realized what he wants from life, and the daughter is actively making plans to escape.
Opening her father’s strong embrace in order to finally start an independent life turns out to be more difficult for the heroine than it seemed. Previously, the film won the main award of the “Uncommon View” section of the Cannes Film Festival.
“Unclenching his fists” is the second work of Kira Kovalenko, a student of Alexander Sokurov. The film was shot in the Ossetian language, and most of the roles in it are played by non-professional actors.
