The Ministry of Health allowed to vaccinate breastfeeding mothers with Sputnik V

The Russian Ministry of Health has excluded nursing women from the list of persons with contraindications to vaccination with the Sputnik V coronavirus drug. How informs “Interfax”, the corresponding change was made to the instructions for “Gam-Covid-Vac” on October 15.

The new version of the instructions notes that there are no clinical data on the use of “Sputnik V” among lactating women, and it is not known whether the active ingredients of the drug are able to penetrate into breast milk.

“Before deciding whether to vaccinate a nursing woman, it is necessary to assess the risks and benefits of this vaccination,” the document says.

On July 20, WHO updated its recommendations for vaccination against coronavirus – preliminary results of the conducted research showed that vaccination of nursing mothers against COVID-19 does not pose a threat to children.

On June 25, it became known that the Ministry of Health of Russia allowed to vaccinate pregnant women against coronavirus with the Sputnik V vaccine.
