Eleven works by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, exhibited at a Las Vegas hotel for over 20 years, sold at auction for $ 110 million. informs BBC.
Nine canvases and two ceramic artworks owned by MGM Resorts were exhibited at the Picasso Restaurant at the Bellagio Hotel. The owners hope that the sale of Picasso’s masterpieces will help them diversify their collection with works by little-known artists, including women, minorities and people from developing countries.
The most expensive lot was the 1938 painting “A Woman in a Red-Orange Beret”, in which Picasso depicted his beloved Maria-Teresa Walter. The canvas was sold for $ 40.5 million.
The nearly two-meter painting “Man and Child” was sold for $ 24.4 million.
