Facebook accused a Ukrainian citizen of stealing and trading data from 178 million users of the social network. How informs Business Insider, the company has filed a lawsuit against him in the Northern District of California.
The defendant in the claim is Alexander Solonchenko, known under the pseudonym Solomame. According to Facebook representatives, from 2018 to 2019, it gained access to the identification data of accounts and phone numbers of 178 million users.
The lawsuit emphasizes that Solonchenko allegedly used special software that automatically sends a request to a person through the Messenger application.
According to the company, in May of this year, Solonchenko sold the information received on the online forum Raid Forums, and also posted the data of 10 million users of the Ukrainian Privatbank and the French analytical company on the Internet for free.
Facebook officials have called for a jury trial. The company is counting on compensation for the damage caused, while the amount of the alleged losses is not indicated in the claim.
