The gas crisis in Moldova has led to a cutoff of gas supplies to the Eternal Flame at the Memorial of Military Glory in Chisinau. About it informs Ministry of Defense of the country.
The ministry asked the Chisinau-Gas company to turn off the gas supply to the Eternal Flame due to the decrease in pressure in the gas supply pipes and because of the strong wind that can extinguish the fire. The Ministry of Defense noted that “in the conditions of the imposed state of emergency, it seeks to avoid a gas leak, which could threaten security.”
The fire will remain extinguished until the gas crisis is resolved.
Servicemen of the company of the guard of honor lit a special torch from the Eternal Flame, which will be kept in the Museum of Military Glory of the Ministry of Defense. Later, the authorities expect to re-ignite the Eternal Flame from him.
Today the Parliament of Moldova due to gas shortage voted for the introduction of a state of emergency in the country. The regime will operate from October 22 to November 20.
Earlier in Moldova, due to the energy crisis, there was introduced high alert mode. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilica stressed that the introduction of the state of emergency is a technical solution, thanks to which the Moldovan authorities will be able to purchase the necessary volume of natural gas from alternative sources in the event of an emergency.
The crisis was caused by a sharp rise in fuel prices, as well as difficulties in negotiating a new long-term contract with Gazprom for the supply of gas. The contract between Russia and Moldova was signed in 2006 and subsequently extended several times. The current contract between Moldovagaz and Gazprom expired on September 30, and negotiations on its extension have not yet been completed. So far, the parties have agreed only on supplies for October. Moreover, Moldova will have to buy gas at a price of $ 790 per 1,000 cubic meters, while in September the price was $ 550 per 1,000 cubic meters.
