The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) is conducting a survey among the population about whether to ban the South Korean TV series Squid Game, which has become the most popular project in the history of Netflix’s streaming service.

As It became known to The Insider, the survey of respondents is carried out by phone. Also, VTsIOM employees are interested in whether a person knows that violence is shown in the series, whether he approves of showing such violence in the 18+ category and whose position he shares – those who believe that violence in games and movies provokes violence in real life, or no. The press service of VTsIOM confirmed to The Insider the information about such a survey.

The respondents also said that questions were asked about the approval of the work of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. In addition, the interviewers were interested in whether the respondent participated in protest actions, whether he is ready to participate and whether there are protest moods among the environment.

Earlier it was reported that the Safe Internet League, headed by Yekaterina Mizulina, will check the Squid Game. According to Mizulina, the series is dangerous for children, despite being labeled 18+. At the moment, the organization is awaiting a conclusion from expert psychologists. Film blogger Evgeny Bazhenov (BadComedian), in turn, notedthat parents, worried about the possible negative impact of the show on teens, can independently and without much difficulty prevent them from watching.

Roskomnadzor also recalled the restriction on the showing of Squid Games. “Content prohibited for display, including scenes of cruelty and violence, may be deemed prohibited by decision [российских] authorized bodies or court “, – stated in RKN.

State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov too spoke out for banning the series. He said that “the series is destructive and extremely harmful.” “By and large, this is not art, just someone makes money on trash content, not very good. Therefore, if it is banned, then there will be no damage to world art, “Milonov said.

The Squid Game tells how several hundred people in need compete for a $ 40 million prize. The losers are killed. The series has a clear social connotation, similar to the main line of the Oscar-winning South Korean film “Parasites”. The rich are watching the attempts of the poor to win the prize. Class inequality and the alarming picture of the entire capitalist world are the main ideas of the Squid Game.
