Employees at Netflix Inc. staged a strike on October 20 to protest the decision of streaming company Netflix to release a new “special” comedian Dave Chappell, who, according to them, makes fun of transgender people – in the concert an entire fragment is devoted to transphobic jokes. Employees boycott the work of the company. About it informs Reuters.

A group of Netflix workers calling themselves Team Trans have scheduled a rally outside Netflix’s 13-story Los Angeles Sunset Boulevard office, where activists, community leaders and other supporters plan to hand over a “list of questions” to Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos. “We strive to use this moment to change the situation around what Netflix considers to be ethical entertainment,” strike organizer Ashley Marie Preston wrote on the social network.

Earlier, Netflix fired an employee who provided the media with confidential and commercially important information about Dave Chappell’s scandalous stand-up “The Closer”, for which the company paid the comedian $ 24 million. trans strike.

Also, after the release of the stand-up, one of the Netflix employees Terra Field posted a thread on Twitter, where she criticized the stream service. She was removed from office, but after a while she was reinstated at work due to media attention.

Ted Sarandos, in response to the complaints of employees, said that he recognized the provocative style of Chappell’s speech, but noted that the comedian did not cross the line of incitement to violence. “We strongly believe that the content on the screen does no real harm,” Sarandos responded to staff in a memo.
