Sovetsky District Court of Krasnodar sentenced 25-year-old former police officer Alexei Solovyov, who was found guilty of a fatal traffic accident. Driving a car, he knocked down a minor girl at a pedestrian crossing, and then destroyed the evidence.
The court sentenced Solovyov to six years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. He was also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 2.5 years. As compensation for moral damage from Solovyov, 1.5 million rubles were collected in favor of the family of the deceased girl, informs press service of the court.
As follows from the materials of the case, on the evening of September 19, 2020, an officer of the Krasnodar police patrol service, Aleksey Soloviev, driving a Kia car, moved along the road to the village of Starokorsunskaya and hit a 16-year-old girl. She was crossing the road on an unregulated, illuminated pedestrian crossing. After the accident, the policeman fled without slowing down. The injured girl died at the scene.
Trying to avoid responsibility, Solovyov arrived at his friend’s car service, where he removed the damaged parts from the car (windshield, bumper, license plate, headlight fragments), and then burned them in a barrel of garbage. Then an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs called a tow truck, onto which he loaded his car, covering it with a cloth. At the time of loading, Solovyov was detained by police officers. During the arrest, the man shouted that he works in the police and showed his identity, reported agency “Kuban 24”.
The suspect was charged with paragraph “b” of Part 4 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of the rules of the road by a person driving a car, negligently entailed the death of a person, associated with the abandonment of the place of its commission). Solovyov was threatened with a sentence of 5-12 years in prison.
After an internal audit, the policeman was fired for committing an act defaming the honor and dignity of an employee of the internal affairs bodies.
In the last word in court, Soloviev pleaded guilty, asked for forgiveness from the girl’s parents, and also asked the court to show leniency.
