In St. Petersburg, opera singer Viktor Korotich was detained by law enforcers near his house on Soyuz Pechatnikov Street. “They put my face on the asphalt, twisted my arms, put handcuffs and tried to push me into the paddy wagon,” – told Korotich “Fontanka”.

Before the arrest, the police demanded a passport from the artist, which he did not have. The security officials said that he might be wanted, and they refused to look at the photos of Korotich on the Mariinsky website. He was told that he needed to go to the police station to confirm his identity. Korotich refused, because in the evening he was supposed to have a performance at the Zazerkalye theater.

After that, they used force against the artist and pushed him into a paddy wagon. On what grounds the detention took place, the police did not report. The whole process was filmed by eyewitnesses, the video shows the shout of the artist during the forceful arrest by three police officers – he shouts “Help”, “I have documents” and talks about the evening performance.

According to Fontanka, Korotich was taken to the 1st department, where an administrative protocol was drawn up against him about resisting the police. “There are injuries on the body, now, I hope, an ambulance will arrive, the beatings will be removed,” said the artist.
