In Yekaterinburg, police detained two suspects after the death of 18 people who were poisoned with methyl alcohol. About it informs TASS with reference to the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region Valery Gorelykh.
According to the agency, the detainees are local residents born in 1978 and 1967.
Previously became known about the death of 16 Yekaterinburg residents, poisoned with alcohol containing methanol. Subsequently, the death toll rose to 18.
According to the investigation, in the territory of the Chkalovsky district of Yekaterinburg, methyl alcohol was sold to residents from October 7 to 14. The criminal case is being investigated under the article on the sale of goods and products that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers, which inadvertently entailed the death of two or more persons (part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
On October 7, it became known about the mass poisoning by counterfeit alcohol of residents of several settlements of the Orenburg region. All of them purchased counterfeit alcoholic beverages in the city of Orsk.
Analyzes showed the presence of pure methanol in the biological fluids of victims and deceased. In some cases, its concentration in the body was 3-5 times higher than the lethal dose.
In connection with the mass poisoning of people, a criminal case was initiated. Ten people were detained, eight of them were arrested, the rest are awaiting trial to choose a preventive measure.
