The FSB has banned journalist Ivan Safronov, who is in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center in Moscow, from sending and receiving letters. About it informs “Russian service of the BBC” with reference to the lawyer Dmitry Katchev.
According to Katchev, FSB investigator Alexander Chaban applied to the Lefortovo administration with a corresponding request. He explained this by the norm of the law, which allows the accused to prohibit from receiving or sending letters “containing information that may interfere with the establishment of the truth in a criminal case or contribute to the commission of a crime.”
At the same time, the lawyer emphasizes that Safronov never discussed his case or the conditions of detention in letters. Katchev added that Safronov’s letters do not even reach the lawyers with whom he has the right to discuss the details of the case.
