Konstantin Vorontsov, acting deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control, received a US visa in exchange for the entry into Russia of US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland. About this in a conversation with RIA Novosti reported Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

Earlier, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the United States had excluded a Russian from the sanctions list in exchange for Nuland’s visit to Russia, but did not specify his name.

In September, Kommersant, citing sources wrotethat Vorontsov was among those for whom Moscow tried to obtain American visas in exchange for Victoria Nuland’s visa. According to the newspaper, the diplomat is responsible for multilateral disarmament issues and must fly to New York to the UN headquarters to participate in the work of the First Committee of the General Assembly, however can not get an American visa from the fall of 2019.

The day before, Konstantin Vorontsov spoke at the First Committee of the UN General Assembly.

Victoria Nuland flew to Russia on October 11 for a three-day visit. Today she held talks with Sergei Ryabkov. At the end of the meeting, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister statedthat the conversation with Nuland was “extremely frank” and useful, but at the moment, according to him, the positions of the parties “do not fit well together.”

Earlier it was reported that in Russia Nuland is also going to meet with the deputy head of the presidential administration of Russia Dmitry Kozak and discuss the situation in eastern Ukraine.

Victoria Nuland was added to the list of persons who are prohibited from entering the territory of the Russian Federation, after in May 2019 she advocated tougher sanctions against Russia.
