The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine released the head of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov on bail. About it reported press service of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office on Facebook.

The amount of the collateral is determined in the amount of UAH 30.2 million (about $ 1.15 million). At the same time, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine demanded a larger amount of collateral – 120 million hryvnia.

In addition, the mayor must surrender his passport, as well as, upon first request, appear in court, to the prosecutor and the investigator, inform the investigating authorities about the change of job or place of residence, not leave the place of residence without the permission of law enforcement agencies and the judge, refrain from communicating with other persons involved in the judicial process, including witnesses.

Gennady Trukhanov is accused of complicity in a criminal scheme for illegal appropriation of municipal land. The mayor himself accused the Ukrainian authorities of repression and recalled the former president of Georgia and ex-governor of the Odessa region, Mikhail Saakashvili. According to Trukhanov, the latter appointed Uglava Gizo to the post of the first deputy director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, so that he “began to tear” the mayor.

It is not the first time that Gennady Trukhanov has become a defendant in a criminal case. According to him, he became a suspect four times. In 2018, the mayor of Odessa detained on suspicion of involvement in an illegal scheme – in September 2016, the Odessa City Council acquired from a private structure one of the buildings of the Krayan plant at a price of UAH 185 million. And at the beginning of the same year, the same building was bought at an auction organized by the liquidator of the state-owned enterprise, for 11.5 million hryvnia. Trukhanov and other defendants were acquitted, but in February 2021, the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court overturned the acquittal.
