“I congratulate Maria Ressa from the Philippines and Dmitry Muratov from Russia for the well-deserved honor of being named this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureates. Like many journalists around the world, Ressa and Muratov tirelessly and fearlessly follow the facts, ”he said.
“Ressa, Muratov and journalists like them around the world are at the forefront of the global battle for the very idea of truth,” Biden added.
The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on the eve of Novaya Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov and US-Philippine journalist Maria Ressa “for efforts to preserve freedom of expression, which is a prerequisite for democracy and peace.”
