Microsoft published a new cybersecurity report linking most cyber attacks in recent decades with Russian hackers.
Microsoft cites as an example the activity of the Nobelium group, which is suspected of hacking into SolarWinds and in operations to collect data on critical infrastructure objects. More than half of the attacks, according to the corporation, spent Russian groups, another 23% – North Korean, 11% – Iranian, 8% – Chinese.
As noted in the report, the Russian share of attacks has increased significantly due to Nobelium. Thus, in the last year, the group has increased its attacks on Ukraine from 3 to 1200. According to Microsoft, the attacks are related to the mobilization of troops near the Ukrainian-Russian border.
The effectiveness of attacks, which, according to Microsof, Russia is behind, has grown from 21% to 32% over the year. The share of government organizations attacked increased from 3% to 53%.
In December 2020, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Russia of a massive cyber attack on the American government.
The attack targeted software from the American company SolarWinds. The attack itself lasted several months and affected dozens of government departments, including nuclear laboratories and the Pentagon, the Treasury and the Commerce Department.
Reuters reported that the Cozy Bear group, which is associated with the Russian special services, is behind the attack.
Moscow has denied all allegations of involvement in hacking computer networks.
