The semiconductor crisis, as well as the situation in the energy sector in China and Europe, hit the automotive market in Russia. Auto sales in September were down nearly 25% from September 2020, analysts said.
AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee published a press release, according to which the automotive market “sank” in September 2021 by 22.6% compared to the same period in 2020 – sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles fell. In quantitative terms, this is a drop in sales by 34.9 thousand, to 119.4 thousand cars. In August this figure was 17%.
The leaders in sales are still the products of AvtoVAZ (17 thousand cars). The most popular model was Lada Vesta. At the same time, the sales of the domestic company decreased by 51% and almost caught up with Kia, which, in turn, has a decline of 16%.
Positive dynamics is observed only in Toyota, GAZ commercial vehicles, as well as in the Chinese company Haval – the latter is in 10th place in the sales rating (+ 147%). Also, the Chinese Chery came out on top, with a growth of 134% it took 11th place.
Such a sharp drop in the market is due to the global semiconductor crisis, as well as the depressing situation in the energy sector in China and Europe. In addition, the cost of raw materials is increasing. The situation is unstable, say the AEB, but despite this, the Committee expects the market to rise by 9.8% by the end of the year.
