The Prosecutor General of Moldova, Alexander Stoyanoglo, was dismissed from office due to a criminal case. About it reported Minister of Justice of the country Sergei Litvinenko.
Stoyanoglo is accused of committing a series of dubious transactions with fugitive oligarch Vyacheslav Platon.
“Currently we do not have the leadership of the prosecutor’s office. Despite the fact that the law stipulates that the SCJ will convene a meeting within 5 days from the moment such a situation arises, I consider it necessary to convene an extraordinary meeting today in order to select and propose a candidate for the interim Prosecutor General to the President of the country, ”Litvinenko said.
According to Moldovan laws, due to a criminal case against the Prosecutor General, his deputies were also removed from office.
Last week, amendments to the legislation were adopted, according to which the president of the country and the Supreme Council of Prosecutors received the right to create a commission to assess the activities of the prosecutor general. In case of an unsatisfactory assessment, the Prosecutor General may be dismissed ahead of schedule, although he was appointed for a period of seven years.
On the eve, Stoyanoglo held a press conference, during which he said that the new Moldovan authorities are putting pressure on the prosecutor’s office. According to him, they are seeking resignation from him, but he does not intend to leave his post.
