The Moscow Regional Court has detained Kaliningrad doctors Elina Sushkevich and Elena Belaya in the case of the murder of a newborn. Previously, they were acquitted.

About the arrest of doctors informs “Sever.Realii” with reference to the lawyer Sushkevich Kamil Babasov. Judge Andrei Vyunov arrested Sushkevich and Belaya until January 4, 2022. They are in the “Pechatniki” isolation ward. The defense will appeal the judgment.

According to the lawyer, the court justified the arrest of Sushkevich by the fact that she allegedly “can continue to engage in criminal activity, can somehow destroy evidence in the case, put pressure on the jury.” As evidence of this, the representative of the injured party showed printouts of Facebook posts from 2020, in which Elina Sushkevich thanked her colleagues for their support and for the fact that they considered her innocent.

Sushkevich explained that she used the Internet under house arrest to the extent that the court allowed her. On the Web, she improved her education, took online courses and did not comment on the investigation.

“Calling an innocent person a criminal is beyond the bounds. Today, in court, Elina Sergeevna constantly followed the fate of her children – she has 10 children in the intensive care unit. And there were three doctors left for all of them, one of them was on duty. It is not known what will happen if one of them starts dying, ”the lawyer added.

Elina Sushkevich, a resuscitator-anesthesiologist of the Kaliningrad Regional Perinatal Center, and Elena Belaya, deputy chief physician of maternity hospital No. 4, are accused of killing a newborn child. The boy was born at 23 weeks and 3 days, his weight was about 700 grams. According to the investigation, in November 2018, Belaya instructed Sushkevich to administer a lethal dose of magnesium to a premature baby.

According to the UK, Belaya was aware that the death of the child would negatively affect statistics and her upcoming appointment as chief physician. In addition, she allegedly wanted to save medicine, which is why she decided to kill the child.

In December 2020, the court acquitted Sushkevich and Belaya. But six months later, the decision canceled… At the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the doctors’ case was moved from Kaliningrad to Moscow, where a new trial began. The department explained the transfer of consideration to another region by possible actions in defense of doctors. However, the case of Sushkevich and Belaya caused a resonance not only in the Kaliningrad region. Almost one and a half thousand doctors from twenty Russian regions signed the appeal to the President of Russia, speaking in their defense. They compared what was happening with the “case of doctors” in 1953, which became the finale of the Stalinist repressions.

In July 2021, it became known that Belaya’s lawyer Timur Marshani, by decision of the Kuntsevsky District Court of Moscow, was placed under house arrest on suspicion of major fraud. A former client, a resident of Moscow, testified against him. wrote Baza. She claims that Marshani requested 20 million rubles for his services in the debt case. The client handed over the money, and then reported this to the judge, who passed the information to the FSB.
