Maxim Ivankin, convicted in the Network case, said that he wrote a confession under torture. Excerpts from his interview by lawyers published “New Newspaper”.
“Immediately when I was taken to the hospital, I was greeted by the Reds. The prisoners began to beat me on the back of the head and on the kidneys. I was stretched for refusing to sign, and I was beaten in this position. The activists made me learn the content of the confession by heart. Until I told them word for word, they didn’t let me go to sleep, ”Ivankin said.
Ivankin was sentenced to 13 years in a maximum security colony in the Network case in February 2020.
After the verdict, on February 21, 2020, Meduza published investigation about the disappearance in 2017 of two teenagers from Penza – Artem Dorofeev and Ekaterina Levchenko. They talked with the convicts and in 2017 went on foot from Penza to Ryazan with Maxim Ivankin and Alexei Poltavets, who had fled from Russia, who told Meduza about the incident. According to Poltavets, he and Ivankin killed and disposed of the corpses of Dorofeev and Levchenko in order to eliminate the witnesses to drug trafficking that the group was dealing with. The order for the murder was allegedly given to them by the leader, another person involved in the Network case, Dmitry Pchelintsev. After that, Ivankin was interrogated twice by operatives, but he, like Pchelintsev, denied his guilt in the murder.
The body of Artyom Dorofeev was discovered in the forest near Ryazan back in 2017, and in March 2020, nearby investigators found the body of Yekaterina Levchenko and began a preliminary investigation into the circumstances of her death.
In September, Ivankina unexpectedly taken out from IK-9 in Chuvashia, where he was serving his sentence, to SIZO-1 in Nizhny Novgorod, and from there to Vladimir IK-3.
