International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) October 3, 2021 published the so-called “Pandora Papers”. These are 12 million documents with data on the owners of offshore companies from around the world. The archive with this information ICIJ received from a source whose name was not disclosed.
This is the result of the work of more than 600 journalists from more than 150 media outlets from 117 countries of the world, who have at their disposal the internal archive of 14 offshore registrars. Journalists from Vostochnye Stories were received from Russia in the investigation.
In the published Russian part of the “Pandora’s archive”, as they write “Important stories”, there is information that:
- General Director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst ended up the beneficiary of an offshore company in the British Virgin Islands, which is involved in a project to demolish Soviet cinemas in Moscow and build shopping centers in their place. Russian state banks provided tens of billions of rubles for these purposes.
- Family of the head of “Rostec” Sergei Chemezov hid offshore property worth 22 billion rubles, including a superyacht and a villa in Spain.
- Vladimir Putin’s friend Svetlana Krivonogikh, who is called the mother of his third daughter, there is an offshore apartment in Monaco worth 3.6 million euros. Earlier, journalists discovered that the Krivonogikhs had a share in the Rossiya bank and other assets. She has a daughter, Elizabeth, who was born in 2003. Her father is not indicated in the documents, there is only a patronymic – Vladimirovna.
- Son-in-law of the head of “Transneft” Andrey Bolotov through offshores owned contractor of this state-owned company and received contracts from it for billions of rubles. In the year when Transneft came under EU sanctions, Bolotov received citizenship of one of the EU countries.
Other world leaders in the archive include, for example, the names of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babish, King Abdullah II of Jordan, the family of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In particular, it follows from the archive that Czech Prime Minister Andriy Babis secretly bought a castle in the south of France worth $ 22 million, and Vladimir Zelensky conveyed 25% of his shares in an offshore company to a close friend.
