Petition for repealing the law on “foreign agents” signed more than 150 thousand people.
Petition signatures began to be collected on 14 September. On the morning of October 2, the petition collected more than 153,000 signatures.
“The legislation on“ foreign agents ”is openly discriminatory and illegal: it contradicts the Russian Constitution and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” the petition says.
The authors of the petition note that in the nine years since the adoption of the first version of the legislation on “foreign agents”, the legislation has only been tightened and expanded. “Now it extends not only to non-profit organizations, but also to the media; requires not only reporting and labeling, but also introduces outright bans. Finally, this legislation applies not only to organizations, but also to ordinary people. Anyone can become an “foreign agent” today, ”they write.
