On the website of Group-IB, founded by Ilya Sachkov on September 29 arrested on charges of treason, published letter on OSCE letterhead signed by Senior Police Adviser to the Secretary General Kurt Dreyer. It says:
“I am pleased to recommend you Group-IB’s global cybersecurity services. Over the past year or so, our team at the OSCE has received reliable information on new types of cyber threats. In addition, we also
received information about attacks on various government structures and threats to critical infrastructures, including cybercrime.
Group-IB also worked closely with OSCE members and provided training in forensics and cybercrime investigation. In general, we are always satisfied with their work. <…>
Please consider using Group-1B for all of your corporate global security needs.
We recommend them and look forward to working with them again. “
In the material of RIA, attention is drawn to the wording “it seems that it was not authorized”. In other words, an unnamed employee of the press service could not say with certainty whether the organization had authorized this letter. It is also completely unclear from the material whether the senior adviser to the secretary general generally needs some kind of management approval in order to sign a letter of recommendation on the organization’s letterhead, or whether he has the right to do it at his own discretion.
But the RIA material, which does not contain any specific information, is written in such a way as to give the impression that Group-IB posted a fake letter of recommendation on its website.
Group-IB’s status as an official partner of Interpol and Europol, about which reported on the same page of the group’s website, RIA does not try to challenge.
