For the first time, North Korea tested the new Hwaseong-8 hypersonic missile developed by the North Korean Academy of Military Sciences. About it informs Central Telegraph Agency of Korea.
According to the agency, the rocket was launched on the morning of September 28 at one of the test ranges in the Chagando province, located in the north of the DPRK.
TsTAK writes that during the tests, the military tested the technical indicators of the rocket, and also confirmed its maneuverability, stable operation of the engine and fuel system. At the same time, the agency does not specify how far the rocket flew.
The country’s representatives said that the development of a hypersonic missile “is of great strategic importance for the country’s science and technology and strengthening its power.” Hwaseong-8 was named one of the “five most important” new weapons systems mentioned in the DPRK’s five-year military plan, which was adopted at the end of the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea in January 2021.
Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea said that North Korea launched at least one missile towards the Sea of Japan. Kyodo agency citing sources reportedthat it was a short-range ballistic missile. According to the publication, the shell fell outside the Japanese exclusive economic zone.
